HORRIBLE! 

Your GL1000 carb tops are horrible , just like the one here. Well, maybe not THAT horrible but they usually have some crazing or discolouring, which will spoil the look of any carb set, especially if they have just been overhauled..

If the tops are cracked, they will cause running problems. See this Tech Tip for explanation.

Obviously, badly broken ones have to be replaced.

Doing a proper replacement for cracked tops is a far better option than covering with epoxy or sticking coins on top!

 

Help is at hand. A new agreement, with well known carburettor guru Pistol Pete, allows me to supply and fit his new OEM look carburettor buttons to your GL1000 carburettor tops.

 

This will be great news for European and Continental GL1000 owners, for whom the double shipping cost to send their tops to the USA and back was prohibitive.

If you wish me to polish the vacuum caps, this will be done before fitting the buttons.

The cost for polishing a set of four is $45

If you are polishing them yourself, please do this before sending them.

 

The new buttons should be treated with some care as, a standard of PP practice, they are treated with a UV protectant and it can be removed with aggressive polishing or for that matter scrub cleaning the caps.

This treatment should last 6 to 8 years if it is not scrubbed off.

Warm soapy water and pat dry is the best answer.

Remove the slides and mark each slide and respective cap with a Magic Marker or similar on the inside.

Carefully wrap the tops only, in bubble wrap or similar, pack them securely and send to the Glasgow UK address in the 'Get Help' page.
